Lotty Dotty | Celebrate a New You Each Day | We celebrate our birthdays in one way or another every single year. The passing of yet another year is cause for celebration. We celebrate this day in a special way because we know that for one day each year, the people who have made a difference in our lives will be focusing on us. When it comes to our birthdays, we all tap into that inner child for a moment of joy, camaraderie, and jubilation over life.
It was once lamented that we should celebrate our birthday each and every day. Do you find truth in this statement? Picture a life where each day is filled with the same sense of eagerness and expectation as one’s birthday. The movie industry gave us the adage “Seize the Day,” but the message is just as relevant in real life. When was the last time you made the most of each day as if it were your last, filling it with as many adventures, experiences, and good times as you could with your closest friends and family?
In our busy lives, it’s easy to let the days go by without giving much thought to how they’re being spent. We spend so much time trying to cram as much work as we can into each day that we don’t have time to reflect on the many possibilities we’ve missed over the weeks.
This week, try to reorient your perspective in life. Spend some time at the start of the week formulating a strategy that focuses on your values and includes those closest to you. Make a list of short-term goals you want to achieve this week, and make plans for a simple victory party or dinner with your loved ones to celebrate your success.
Take a look at the objectives or the plans you had for the day as it comes to a close and ask yourself if you were successful in achieving them. Think about how they changed you, what they brought to your life, and how they improved the way you felt about yourself overall. Allow your inner child to be reawakened as you recall the simple details that gave you a feeling of being alive– the lovely coffee you shared with a coworker you hadn’t seen in a while or the gorgeous butterfly you spotted on your stroll.
Make it a regular practice to spend time with loved ones intentionally, because it is not only our birthdays that we should celebrate but also our “rebirth”– because we are, indeed, a new person each day.
